Welcome to Ard Daraich—your gateway to natural beauty, wildlife encounters, scenic walks, and exceptional local food. Whether you’re here to relax, explore, or indulge, we’ve gathered a few highlights to help you make the most of your stay.
Eating Out & Local Produce
The West Highlands are known for their outstanding food, with an emphasis on fresh, locally sourced ingredients—both from land and sea.

Love to Cook?
Our well-equipped kitchens give you the chance to cook your own meals if that’s your thing. Many guests love to bake or prepare dinner while enjoying views of the garden and wildlife just outside the window.
Or Prefer to Dine Out?
We’re lucky to be surrounded by places that make the most of Scotland’s natural larder. From hand-caught langoustine and lobster to wild venison and locally raised lamb, the food here reflects the rugged landscape and bountiful waters.

Walking & Exploring
Whether you’re a seasoned hillwalker or just fancy a gentle stroll, Ard Daraich is the perfect base.
From the Front Door
No car needed. Turn left and follow the River Gour through Glen Gour for up to twelve miles toward Strontian. Or turn right and head to the beach on Loch Linnhe—a favourite for dog walks and beachcombing.

At the end of our lane there is a large beach. Its a wonderful place to potter and beach combe or go for a brisk walk to the shipping waymark in the middle of Loch Linnhe.
Very good for dog walking, it is Crinans favourite walk although we have still to persuade him to swim!
Local Highlights
- Glen Gour to Strontian: An old drove road takes you through peaceful glens and eventually to the Ariundle Oak Woodland Reserve.
- Ariundle Oakwood: Marked trails ranging from short boardwalk circuits to steeper climbs. Look out for home baking and a warm log fire at the Ariundle Centre.
- Phemie’s Walk: A gentle, family-friendly woodland path in Strontian—great for fungi spotting in autumn.
- Views: On clear days, enjoy stunning views from Jura to Skye. WalkHighlands is a great resource for more ambitious hikes.
Wildlife Encounters
Our guests often tell us that wildlife is one of the highlights of their stay—and we agree. From sea eagles to seals, otters, and golden eagles, the area teems with life.
What You Might See:
- Otters: Visit the local wildlife hide and be patient—you might see one feasting on crabs among the kelp. Bring binoculars!
- Sea Eagles & Golden Eagles: Scan the skies or shorelines. You’ll often spot them in Ardnamurchan or across to Mull.
- Seals: Especially visible in warmer months. You might even swim with them just off the beach.
- Garden Birds: Coal Tits, Siskins, Goldfinches and more are regulars at the feeders outside your window.
- Other Creatures: Curlew on the shore, long-tailed tits in the trees, and maybe even a Hen Harrier if you’re lucky.
Whether it’s a walk in the woods or a moment by the water, nature is never far away.
We hope you’ll enjoy every moment—exploring, relaxing, and discovering all the West Highlands have to offer.
